The comedy show joybenius will be very stupid. It will feature at least three actual jokes, two semi-passable impressions of dead men, and one slightly overlong slideshow. The title is a spoonerism of the band boygenius.
The comedian Mara Joy is also very stupid, often deliberately. She was a semi-finalist in both the Funny Women Awards 2023 and LGBTQ+ New Comedian of the Year Awards 2024, is a regular at Monkey Barrel Comedy’s alt-comedy night The OTHER Show, and regularly tours the country as part of the Scottish Comedy Award winning Spontaneous Players. She is a big fan of the band boygenius.
The band boygenius are a supergroup made up of three shining lights of queer American indie rock. They have released a number one album, won three Grammy Awards, and are currently on hiatus. They are not involved in this show in any way.
