Daniel Downie: Mountebank (WIP)
Comedian, Historian and Highlander Daniel Downie takes his show ‘MacMountebank’ to the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. This is a show about what it means to be Scottish and whether our perceptions of ‘Scottishness’ are genuine or invented. Is Glasgow the ‘hardest’ city in Scotland? Is Edinburgh really ‘England with tartan’? Are the Highlands and islands an idilic paradise? Does anyone actually speak Gaelic? How many people can actually dance a Dashing White Sergeant? Are we romantic Jacobites or reverent Covenanters? Picts or Scots? Urban or rural? Highland or Lowland? This is a show about Scots’ perceptions of themselves and what unites and divides us.
