FREE Introduction to Comedy Course for Women & People of Marginalised Genders
The Glasgow International Comedy Festival aims to make sure that comedy is open to everyone and anyone. So while nothing in life is free, usually, we’re hosting a completely free six-week ‘Introduction to Comedy’ course for women and marginalised genders, led by the hilarious and talented Viv Gee.
Viv is a stand-up comedian who has been teaching stand-up comedy for over 20 years. Under Viv’s guidance you’ll navigate the ins and outs of great comedy, boosting your confidence and honing your comedic chops. The grand finale? A spot on our mixed bill show hosted by Viv during the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. A fun and friendly atmosphere where you and your newfound pals can shine. It’s a chance to own the stage and dive into Glasgow’s thriving comedy scene.
The course ran in its first year in 2024, resulting in the attendees performing as part of a showcase within the festival. Two of the course graduates went on to take their debut show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with others continuing to gig in Glasgow and beyond and cement themselves in the circuit. Others completed the course and went back to their lives with a new found confidence, having ticked something off the bucket list, with a brand new group of pals.
So whether you’ve never even considered trying stand-up or you’ve been practising your funnies in the mirror, this course will introduce you to the basics of stand-up & performance.
